When you arrive, our client care team will go over your pet’s medical history and the reason for your visit. We recommend coming a few minutes early so your pet has time to settle in and feel more comfortable in the new environment.
Your pet will receive a thorough examination from our board-certified veterinary ophthalmologist. The comprehensive eye exam may include several specialized tests to evaluate overall eye health and visual function, such as:
- Tear Production Test (Schirmer Tear Test): This test uses a small, sterile strip of paper placed gently inside the lower eyelid to measure tear production over one minute. It helps diagnose dry eye (keratoconjunctivitis sicca) by evaluating whether your pet is producing a normal amount of tears.
- Intraocular Pressure Check (Tonometry): Using a handheld tonometer, we quickly and gently measure the pressure inside the eye. This test is important for detecting conditions such as glaucoma or uveitis.
- Slit Lamp Biomicroscopy: A specialized microscope with a high-intensity light allows us to examine the front structures of the eye in detail, including the eyelids, cornea, iris, and lens.
When the examination is finished, your ophthalmologist will review the results with you, explain any diagnoses, and go over a customized treatment plan. Depending on your pet’s needs, this plan may include:
- Prescription eye drops or other medications
- Ongoing monitoring or follow-up visits
- Minor procedures or surgical options, if necessary
We’ll also provide a detailed summary of your pet’s visit to your primary care veterinarian to ensure seamless coordination of care.
Our team is here to support you and your pet before, during, and after your visit. If anything is unclear or you need guidance after your appointment, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
